How to Search Ste. Genevieve County Probate Court Records
Two main options exist for accessing Ste. Genevieve County probate records: the free Case.net online portal, or a visit to the courthouse in person. Case.net works well for checking whether a case exists or reviewing case history. For actual document copies, you will need the courthouse or a mail request.
Case.net is available at courts.mo.gov/casenet. It holds over 45 million case records statewide. For probate cases, full document access begins with cases filed on or after July 12, 2004. Enter names in the format "LAST, FIRST MIDDLE INITIAL" exactly as the court has them on file. The search is literal. If you enter the name in the wrong order, you will get no results. Filter by Ste. Genevieve County to narrow results. Case.net shows case parties, docket entries, judgments, and upcoming hearings.
Since July 1, 2023, Missouri expanded public access so individuals can view and download public court documents from personal devices. This applies to cases filed on or after that date. Older records remain available only at courthouse terminals in Ste. Genevieve. For those documents, you will need to visit the courthouse during business hours or submit a mail request with a valid ID copy and the applicable copy fee.
The OSCA Help Desk at (888) 541-4894, weekdays 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM CST, can help with Case.net technical issues. Sealed, expunged, juvenile, and mental health records are never available through Case.net, regardless of county.
Types of Probate Cases in Ste. Genevieve County
The Ste. Genevieve County Circuit Court's probate division handles several types of cases, each generating its own set of records kept by the clerk's office and accessible through Case.net or at the courthouse.
Estate administration cases are the most common probate matter. When someone dies with assets in their name, those assets may need to pass through the court to reach heirs or beneficiaries. If the decedent had a will, it must be filed with the court. A personal representative is then appointed to manage and settle the estate. Missouri law under Chapter 473 RSMo governs this process, including creditor notice requirements and the six-month claim period before distribution can occur.
Guardianship and conservatorship cases are also filed here. Guardianship covers personal care decisions for someone who cannot manage their own affairs. Conservatorship addresses financial management. These cases may involve minors or incapacitated adults. Under Chapter 475 RSMo, the court must appoint an attorney to represent any adult respondent in guardianship or conservatorship proceedings. Annual reports are required to keep active cases in good standing.
Will contests and fraud cases also come before this court. Under Section 472.013 RSMo, a fraud claim in a probate proceeding must be filed within two years of discovery. The outer limit is ten years from the date the fraud occurred, regardless of when it was discovered.

Fees for Ste. Genevieve County Probate Court Records
Ste. Genevieve County follows Missouri's standard fee schedule for probate filings and document copies. Full estate administration petitions cost approximately $155.50 to file. Estates qualifying for simplified small estate procedures pay around $65.50 to $75.00.
Document copies are $0.25 per page for standard copies. Certified copies cost more. Call the clerk at (573) 883-2705 to confirm the current rate before your visit, particularly if you need certified documents for use in other legal proceedings.
Personal representative compensation is set by Missouri statute under Section 473.153 RSMo. The rate starts at 5% of the first $5,000 in estate value, drops to 4% for the next $20,000, then 3% for the next $75,000, 2.75% for the next $300,000, 2.5% for the next $600,000, and 2% for any amount above $1 million. These percentages apply to the full value of assets the personal representative manages.
Small estate affidavits under $15,000 do not need publication. Estates between $15,000 and the $40,000 threshold require publication even when using simplified procedures under Section 473.097 RSMo.
Missouri Probate Laws Affecting Ste. Genevieve County Cases
Missouri's probate code consists of four main chapters in the Revised Statutes. Every case filed in Ste. Genevieve County is governed by these chapters, which set out the rules for how probate records are created, maintained, and made available to the public.
Chapter 472 RSMo covers general probate provisions. It defines terms and establishes jurisdiction. Section 472.280 allows court records to be kept electronically. Section 472.013 sets the two-year rule for starting fraud proceedings in probate matters.
Chapter 473 RSMo governs estate administration. It sets out each step of the process from filing the petition to final distribution. Personal representatives file annual accounts on the anniversary of their appointment. Final settlement must occur within six months and ten days after first publication of the creditor notice.
Chapter 474 RSMo covers intestate succession for cases where no valid will exists. Property passes to the spouse and children first, then to more distant relatives in the order the statute specifies.
Chapter 475 RSMo governs guardianship and conservatorship. The small estate process under Section 473.097 RSMo is available for estates of $40,000 or less and can be filed 30 days after death, which is much faster than full probate administration.
